Engineering Mechanics

About the Subject:

Engineering mechanics is that the application of mechanics to unravel issues involving common engineering components.
The goal of this Engineering Mechanics course is to reveal students to issues in mechanics as applied to probably real-world situations. issues of explicit sorts are explored thoroughly within the hopes that students can gain associate inductive understanding of the underlying principles at work; students ought to then be able to acknowledge issues of this type in real-world things and respond consequently.

Topics to be covered in this Seminar:

Units and Dimensions – Laws of Mechanics –Equilibrium of a particle – Forces in space – Equilibrium of a particle in space – Equivalent systems of forces – Principle of transmissibility-Free body diagram –Action and reaction forces –stable equilibrium – Moments and Couples –Moment of a force about a point and about an axis – Vectorial representation of moments and couples –Scalar components of a moment – Varignon Single equivalent force -Equilibrium of Rigid bodies in two dimensions –Centroids and centre of mass–Theorems of Pappus - Area moments of inertia of plane areas –Principal axes of inertia-Displacements, Velocity and acceleration, their relationship– Impact of elastic bodies-Friction force– Velocity and acceleration – General Plane motion of simple rigid bodies such as cylinder, disc/wheel and sphere.
